Such a good lesson for children and for even us as adults. I always loved reading and writing and storytelling as a kid and now I get to do that for a living as a journalist. I also love the idea of your arrows changing as you get older. Wonderful life lesson!

I love music! Always have, always will. I started piano at 5 and French Horn at 12. I joined band in 6th grade. Following that interest has lead me to some of my best and closest friends. They continue to love and support me now at age 39. I still play horn at church and in a community band, which has given me a way to use my musical gifts to serve others. I never take that for granted. ❤️

As I’ve been doing press and talks related to “Talk To Your Boys,” one of the pieces of advice I’ve shared most often with parents who ask how to stay connected with teenagers is to embrace their quirky interests and help them follow them. That might mean spending the weekend at a fishing derby or a convention for a TV series you don’t care much about yourself, but it’s worth it!

I love this so much. I stayed awake until midnight a few weeks ago to listen to a Drake release (omg don’t even get me started on the language in his music but I digress). My teen still talks about how we rated the songs together live as they dropped.

Wow, that is commitment, Emily! One of my sons went through a huge "Magic, The Gathering" phase in middle school and that was challenging to stay interested in. Luckily, by his late teens taste in music and movies started to match mine, so now we often go to shows together that we both like.

I love that!! PS can’t wait to read your book. There aren’t enough good books about parenting boys out there!

I just had a big arrow change in my life because I realized I liked being an involved parent, partner and community volunteer than I did work. I used to LOVE work and find my passion and purpose there but now I love making gifts for my son’s class on holidays and being a team mom for our little league team (and DJing walk up songs). I love planning an intricate and “extra” football tailgate- I feel like I’ve built a life I love outside of work and I want to spend time enjoying and experiencing it…. So I changed jobs (to something I never thought I would do) and took a lateral career move. I’m two weeks in and it is one of the top 5 best things I’ve ever done….

I love to learn and I'm good at it. Being a forever student in school however isn't a job. lol Where that arrow has led me though is to teach/training. When you're quickly able to take in new information and distill it to something understandable for someone else, you can train other people to learn new things. I'm best at all things software related but I can teach people to do lots of different things. It also makes me a gifted problem solver because I see how things work so I can figure things out or at least see options that others may not.

With my kids, I see some of their arrows and I'm so excited to see where those arrows lead them. <3
