Portrait by Evelyn Laws. | The universe (and Framebridge) decided to punk me and have this arrive at my doorstep the night before the first day of HS.

I heard the shower upstairs around 5:45am. Abnormally early for anyone in our house to be awake. The sound stuck with me — in that tiny, nuanced, yet also enormously big way the little things do during transition times like this.

Over the last few weeks of summer, Bryan and I have had about ten thousand talks with our oldest about starting high school, managing his time well, and being proactive about both his high school experience and his future. I have repeated over and over — in the words of James Clear, "Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become."
