Sunday Scroll #121
Tips for a gentle reset, 2 cozy dinners, my fave 2025 finds, and a bundle of good reads + podcast recs
Happy Sunday! How are you today? Did you know that today’s Sunday? (because I’m not really sure myself — time has no meaning during this weird, no-routine week!)
As strange as this week is, it’s also one of my favorite times of year, right along with September. It’s the beginning of clean-slate season: a chance to look behind at what worked last year, think about what didn’t serve me, and make a plan for exciting new things ahead.
The older I get, the more I try to stay away from Big Black Trash Bag Energy, where I let my excitement take over SO much that I toss away ~eVeRyThInG~ so that I can have a clean slate. When it comes to January — which is basically, like, when we’re nursing a hangover from the months-long holiday season — I try to take things gently. This way I’m a nicer person to my family, and to myself.
Are you looking to get into a New Year headspace? Do you need some ideas for ways to find a gentle reset? I’ve rounded up a few episodes of The Simplified Podcast you might want to check out:
Pop in your headphones while you run errands, run the dishwasher, or go for a run. Maybe you’ll find some calm Big Sister energy to take you into the new year.
Got your mug of something delicious? Let’s go for a scroll!
25 rules for living an excellent life in a chaotic world. Sometimes we need someone to help us remember the basic things we may have (temporarily) forgotten. I need to print this out and tape it to my fridge old-school style.
What I learned from a 102-year-old yoga master. A gentle reminder as all the New Year, New You ads kick up: Life is long. Move at your own pace, in a way that makes you feel good.
5 crime fiction twists that live up to the hype. Along with getting ready for the new year, ‘tis the week for snuggling under a throw blanket with a good book. My forever-thriller-author-hall-pass J.T. Ellison spilled the deets on her favorite twists of all time. A life rule: if J.T.’s telling me about good books, I’m going to read those books!
This week calls for stupid-easy cozy dinners, like Homemade Tomato Soup — along with Double-Decker Grilled Cheese. One of our absolute favorites! Especially when it snowed in Pensacola (!!) earlier this year.
Also cozy: this Cottage Pie. I’m picking up some Bob Evans mashed potatoes from the deli section for the topping, because I work smarter, not harder.
