Sunday Scroll #119
3-minute dinner, 3 things saving my life after my ER trip, why we like sitting in our cars, + when you're weary of the world during Christmas & Advent
Good morning, and welcome to Sunday. How are you holding up?
Welp, I’ve had better weeks. I ended up in the ER (don’t worry, I’m fine!). But wow, did that trip highlight that nurses are awesome.
God bless all the nurses. God bless the ultrasound nurse who took her time with me this week as I lay there in pain, tears in my eyes not from the pain, but from my body reliving the trauma of getting horrible news during ultrasounds in my (very high-risk) pregnancies. She gently explained everything she was seeing on the screen, and that moment of empathy, where she took time out of her busy rotation to spend a few extra minutes being gentle with me? That meant the world to me.
Small kindnesses aren’t really all that small, are they?
Anyway, I’m trying to take it a little easy this week (which, in mid-December, is easier said than done). I’m going to take a few minutes for scrolling today. Hope you’re able to do the same! I’ve got some good links for you.
I haven’t stopped thinking about this essay on how the design of the world shapes kids’ independence (or lack thereof!). It’s something I don’t think about, but makes so much sense.
A gentle mid-December dinner reminder: a delicious pizza is only three minutes away, when you simply toss your favorite toppings on an English muffin and stick it under the broiler. You’re welcome.
Why do I like sitting in my car for long periods of time? The investigative journalism we really need.
Do you need a good homemade salad dressing for your holiday table? This is that dressing. Tbh it feels like it goes with lots of different salads. But if you just have somem greens? Toss them with this stuff, and nobody will be mad at it. Looks fancy, but isn’t, I swear!
If you’re weary of the world this Christmas and Advent season, I want you to read this. You will feel so seen. ❤️
If I ever ran away from home, this ‘70s split-level nestled in the California Redwoods might make the cut. I feel so calm just looking at the photos—I can’t imagine waking up there every day and sipping my coffee on the porch.
