Like any good Instagram user, I come to TikTok trends late. I accept this fate, because I’ve let go of having to learn and use yet another platform (though skincare might be my TikTok gateway?? Time will tell).

I also don’t mind being late to TikTok trends, because I get to see which trends stand the test of time (like putting Apple AirTags into your luggage so that when you arrive in Paris, you can tell the bewildered airline agent that your bag is still in New York 🄲) and which ones aren’t quite worth it (like butter boards, or putting balsamic vinegar in your Diet Coke - no thanks).

Tbh I don’t blame TikTok for the weird trends. In the 90s, we thought owning blow-up furniture was the height of luxury. (Tell me you had a blow up chair… bc I sure did). Who are we to cast stones?

Anyway, I’ve found a TikTok trend that, for me, has stood the test of time: ā€œhigh maintenance to be low maintenance.ā€

The ā€œHigh Maintenance to be Low Maintenanceā€ trend has been going around BeautyTok for a minute, and it’s the idea that you invest time and resources into some areas of your beauty routine (i.e. where you’re ā€œHigh Maintenanceā€) in a way that eventually actually saves you time and money.

Psst, here's an example of a good "High maintenance to be Low Maintenance" routine.

To the surprise of no one, I co-sign to this trend 100%, because I’m all about ā€œwhat can I do now that my future self will thank me for.ā€
