Here's the thing about getting older as a woman: there's this constant conversation happening in your head about what you're willing to accept and what you're not. The gray hairs? Fine, we're friends now. The deeper laugh lines? Actually kind of love them. But the way my eyelids had started to feel heavy, the way my carefully applied eyeliner would transfer onto my upper lid by noon? That was bugging me, for better or worse.

I'd been thinking about getting an upper blepharoplasty for years. Literally years. My grandma even did it! (For those wondering, it's eyelid surgery that removes excess skin from your upper lids.) Not because I wanted to look twenty again (impossible and honestly, no thank you to being twenty), but because I wanted to feel like myself when I looked in the mirror. I wanted my mascara to stay where I put it instead of creating abstract art on my eyelids throughout the day.

I've been sharing my journey on Instagram and have received lots of thoughtful questions. Since I love talking about the stuff most people think but don't say out loud, I wanted to share some of them here in case you were curious or considering something similar yourself. Here’s the before and after!
