I’ve been listening to Awake too and can’t get enough! I also have the new Elin Hilderbrand book on my to be read list! Hang in there with the surgery prep!!! Sending positive thoughts!
I have been loving homemade tomato soup! It’s been so fun to make on the weekend. It’s a great way to use up a lot of tomatoes that are ready in my garden. I am looking forward to reading “Awake” as well!
The best advice I got when I had my hystorectomy was to wear my PJs everyday until I was ready to re-engage in being a contributing member of the family. When my family saw the PJs they didn't ask me to do anything. When they saw me in regular the clothes the request started coming.
I took a small trip grocey shopping with my mom one afternoon in a comfy clothes and rode in the one of the scooters because I was still weak. When I got home I went back into my PJs and took a nap.
Take the pain meds they help you heal.
I walked on a flat treadmill at 2 mph for 20 minutes at a time when I felt up to it. It felt good.
Because I laid around for 2 weeks I recovered quickly and was up at it faster than a lot of other patients that over did it too soon. LET YOUR BODY heal.
Awake! Jen has spoken to my soul during a tough season with our 16 year old experiencing anxiety and a mental health crisis that reordered our entire world three days after my hysterectomy... Even though it's different circumstances, finding your way back to being able to breathe again when your world looks so different is SO relatable. And in her way I have giggled at her word choices and cried at the rawness. I hope your hysterectomy goes as well as mine ..granted I was deep into chaos with a kiddo so I had to move in ways I hadn't planned on, but still...hardly any pain and the hard part was staying more still than I wanted and not lifting allllll the things which is just second nature. Sending positive thoughts and not having the symptoms that led you to the decision feels mind-blowing!
For book recs, I just finished North Woods and WOW it might be a top 5 favorite of all time?! And for life recs, the thing I love most (especially in these wonky, stressful times) is snuggles with my almost 2-year-old. If you need a serotonin boost, find a snuggly toddler ❤️❤️❤️
Add “The Correspondent” by Virgins Evans to your TBR (to be listened to) list. A beautifully written book that rose high on my all time favorites list. I place it in the company of “Tom Lake.” Also, recommend binging “Untamed” on Netflix (I think), a National Park based who done it. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
I can’t choose just one Elin Hilderbrand book to add to your list - read them all!! Hopefully they help your time resting and recovering go by quickly until you are back on your feet again ❤️🩹📚 sending all the positive vibes and best wishes your way! ✨
Love this whole post and I have to agree because you see my pain! The Frame TV's remote is the WORST and half the time I watch things with captions because it's too hard to turn it up. 😂
Be prepared to return stuff because it’s like the whole “you need all the baby things” and then you find you don’t need them. I had a full hysterectomy 20+ years ago laparoscopically and virtually had no pain. Not even an Advil. Was told to still be careful lifting as it could create scar tissue. Just because there was no pain, resting is still a good thing. And in two weeks, for me, full blown menopause hit - hot flashes, brain fog and insomnia was very bad. But we are all different.
All of the Elin Hillderbrand books about Nantucket are my favorites. One is going to be on Netflix soon. Just binge watched The Girlfriend on Prime. Take care and rest after your surgery and sending prayers and hugs your way 😊

Dear Emily, thank you for highlighting my post! I'm reading Awake, too, along with the latest Ian McEwan!
We are loving nostalgic shows too. Full House and Family Matters are regulars - it’s TGIF every night!
I LOVED Elin Hilderbrand’s Paradise Triology.

Looking forward to Awake! I am currently reading The New Menopause by Mary Claire Haver and finally feel seen.

I love all EH books, but for rest time I would binge the series set in St. John (and then go visit there!)
I am loving that this time of year is an opportunity to reset some things and revamp some goals I made earlier in the year. Quarters 4, here I come!
