I've been thinking about something James Clear wrote in Atomic Habits: "Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become." I say this to my kids all. the. time. It's remarkable how small tweaks to our routines can shift everything about how our days feel.

Yesterday, I shared a snippet about some small changes / decisions / habits I made in 2025 that have made me feel more like myself. The response was incredible. Hundreds of you shared your own tiny pivots in my DMs, and reading through them felt like witnessing a quiet revolution of women choosing themselves in the smallest, most intentional ways.

Here's what I'm learning: the changes that stick aren't usually the dramatic overhauls. They're the micro-adjustments that feel so simple they almost seem inconsequential. But these small changes compound. They build on each other. And before long, you realize you're living a completely different version of your life.

In a culture that celebrates the spectacular, there's something quietly radical about choosing the small, steady, sustainable path toward becoming more yourself.

My small changes that made a big difference

Finally addressed my chronic dry eyes. I saw a doctor about punctal plugs for my tear ducts. Years of terrible dry eyes solved with one short appointment. I even googled, about two hours later, “Can punctual plugs make a difference in your eyes right away?” Turns out, yes — they can. And as my doctor said, “plumbing works immediately.” Sometimes the smallest medical fixes address the biggest daily discomforts we've just accepted as normal.

Stopped being an all-or-nothing person. This is a life long lesson but one I’m very cognizant of right now. I decided to let go of my grip on being black-and-white, gas-or-brake about everything. While the shift has been challenging, this mental reframe has changed how I approach exercise, work projects, and parenting decisions.

Only read books I actually want to read. I stopped trying to read books other people told me I should read when I knew they weren't in my favorite genre. Life's too short to ignore your real TBR pile.

Learned mahjong and finally have a hobby. Having something that exists entirely outside of productivity or family logistics feels revolutionary. It's purely for fun, and that matters more than I expected.

Committed to healing my damaged nails. After years of dip and gel, I'm patiently letting them recover. There isn't a magic formula, just consistency and time. Sometimes the boring approach is the one that works. Once a month I get a manicure and ask for “buff and shine,” not polish. I’ve been using these products twice a day and they really make a difference. It’s still taking forever to heal them, but I can see improvements.
